 You can put a large ball inside a shirt or jacket and tie it up tight, so you can hold onto it. Otherwise, it will likely get away from you. A large piece of all wood furniture will float, if that’s all you can find, and you can get it out thru a door or window. It would be better than nothing. And lots of things often pass right by, floating on flood waters, even BOATS. I once salvaged a large oil drum floating by in a flood, which proved to be half full of expensive hydraulic oil. I wasn’t IN the flood, myself. I was just watching the river from a high spot on the bank, and when the drum got close enough, I just waded out and brought it back to shore. I saw dead cows float buy, and lots of trees, and plenty of things I could have salvaged, such as lawn furniture, if they had floated close enough to shore.  Another but of advice. Considering you are secure in your place, you can barter/sell purified water to other survivors around you. Water is by far the most precious item needed for survival. Next is food, etc. No imagine cooking with rain or even river water. It’s actually very hard to cook cleanly in am outdoor environment. Get a bad case of the craps from dirty water and guess what? You need to rehydrate- with CLEAN water. 1. If you have Gun – Take one Bullet, take out the metal tip and let the gunpowder stay. Stuff tightly lot of cotton/cloth. Fire that bullet in heap of tinder, leaves, paper etc . It’ll light it up nicely ! 2. If you wear glasses – Place them to use the sunlight into the pointed heat signature over tinder/leaves/paper. Very effective. Magnifying glasses do even better. In absolute emergency, can dismantle a Binocular and use the lens. Water filled in transparent glass bottle cna also give slow but sure results. 3.
